Review & Description

It’s the year 2135 and seventeen-year-old Misty Black thinks the idea of putting her in a classroom with average, everyday high school students is equivalent to putting cyanide in a playpen--that’s until Dutton Hardwick slogs into the room. One look at the lanky kid with an unusual rash covering his face and Misty knows what her mission is. It should’ve been simple, find the cause, cure the subject and destroy the source. But it all gets complicated when at first she breaks the cardinal rule by falling for Dutton Hardwick. He’s a naturally born citizen; she’s a genetic. She’s an unidentified; he exists. As the mission continues, Misty tracks the source that’s sending the rank water to the Hardwick’s home back to the Capitol building where she unexpectedly overhears a plot to kill her father, Senator Roy Black, an infiltrator for the Resistance—and what’s growing on Dutton’s face is linked to the creature the conspirators have dispatched to do the job.

By testing the boundaries of who they were trained to be, Misty and her brother Max manage to track and stop the assassin while only scratching the surface of a complex plot to commoditize these superhuman, adult male genetically altered shape-shifters. But just when they let their guards down, the worst that could happen does happen, and Misty and Max hit the road to take vengeance on those responsible. In the end, it’s Misty who questions her future and ability to fulfill the task for which she was created, which is to restore a nation killed thrice over by money hungry men in power.
